Dedicated to founder Giovanni Folonari, the Tenuta di Nozzole 2018 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione (with only 3,000 bottles produced) also shows indelible signs of a hot vintage with scorched earth and roasted almond husk. You get dark and richly concentrated fruit along with the spicy and tarry smoke that comes with 30 months of oak aging in large oak cask. The wine offers a big profile and medium-rich fruit weight.
Sweet berries, walnuts, mahogany and sweet tobacco on the nose. It’s medium-bodied with firm, chewy tannins. Tangy acidity.
Developed nose showing mushroomy notes, oak nuances, and crushed rocks. Smooth and full on the palate, savoury finish.
Their 2016 Tenuta di Nozzole Chianti Classico Gran Selezione comes from a classic vintage that is known for the balance and power displayed in its elegant wines. This bottle opens to dark cherry and blackberry with rich nuances of spice and dried flowers at the back. This is a terrific effort from a winery with a big presence across the region.
Aromas of black plum, leather and cooking spice lead the nose. The concentrated, ripe palate offers blackberry jam, licorice and tobacco alongside firm tannins.
