A ripe version, with apple and melon flavors holding court and a hint of pineapple.
This savory white has the broad-shouldered appeal of a Côte d’Or chardonnay, its earthen Chablis character enriched by oak, lasting on notes of meadow herbs, alfalfa and raw almonds. It’s clean, with concentration to its fruit and lasting spice, a substantial Chablis for an oyster stew.
The toasty resonance of roasted hazelnut on this wine’s nose spells oakiness. With its roundness and juicy, ripe lemon freshness, the palate accommodates that woody support and make it part of its rich, textural charm. This is a deep, rounded wine and the ripeness of 2018 equips it to embrace that nutty richness.
The palate is well balanced with a fine bead of acidity, taut and crisp. The spicy finish lingers in the mouth. This is a fine, energetic Montée de Tonnerre.
A cool and relatively restrained nose is really quite pretty once it begins to open with good Chablis character that gradually emerges in the form of iodine, oyster shell, citrus rind and mostly white pear scents. There is both good volume and verve to the delicious and vibrant medium weight flavors that flash evident minerality on the attractively textured, long and well-balanced finale.
