From Chardonnay and Auxerrois vines in shale limestone soils in Hunawihr, the 2020 Zind offers an excellent, exciting bouquet with ripe and concentrated aromas of crushed limestones and lemon peels. This is a medium to full-bodied, dense, lush and tensioned wine with great purity and persistent salinity. The finish is long, intense and full of energy and power as well as mineral grip and tension, with lovely lemon bitters. It’s a gorgeous wine.

This pale straw-colored Chardonnay and Auxerrois blend from Alsace opens with a musty golden delicious apple, brioche, and banana bouquet. On the palate, this wine medium bodied with medium plus acidity. The mouthfeel is balanced, zesty and bright. The flavor profile is a green apple and saline blend with notes of stony minerality, honeydew melon, and some white peach. I also detected hints of white pepper, almond, custard, and a touch of coconut. The finish is dry and refreshing. This wine would pair well with a beach.

The 2021 Zind is declared as Vin de France, as it is based on 70% of Chardonnay; the rest is Auxerrois. The Chardonnay is from Clos Windsbuhl in Hunawihr, and the Auxerrois is from Hunawihr. The wines are co-fermented in a large foudre. Lovely flinty reduction flickers enticingly. The palate is mellower than the nose suggests, rounded and smooth, with a subtle note of nutty wood. The medium body is fresh and mouth-watering, beautifully balanced.

Wonderful nose of honeycomb, flint and smoke with underlying candied lemon character. The impressive tannin structure is married to a restrained candied citrus richness. Long finish with bright acidity, fine tannin and chalky minerality.

There’s so much ripe-pear aroma in this focused dry white and the lemony freshness is more than enough to carry the generous body. Long, very clean finish that’s bone dry, but polished. A blend of two-thirds chardonnay and one-third auxerrois. From biodynamically grown grapes.
