This is an atypical Vaucrains in the sense where the extremely pretty nose of black cherry violet and a plentitude of spice elements is not only expressive but perfumed, something that in my experience is highly unusual at this early stage! The palate impression is also somewhat unusual in the texture is gorgeous and relatively supple on though the firm, powerful and imposing finish reminds you that it’s still a Vaucrains after all. Excellent.
Ripe but reasonably fresh aromas include those of various red berries, the sausage, earth and hints of leather. There is fine volume and solid density to the supple and rounded medium-bodied flavors that immediately tighten up on the focused, muscular and overtly powerful finish.
The 2018 Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru Les Vaucrains (Maison Louis Jadot) offers up notes of plums, cherries, raw cocoa and spices. Medium to full-bodied, fleshy and enveloping, with a rich chassis of powdery structuring tannins and succulent acids, it’s a powerful, muscular wine.
Ripe aromas feature those of cassis, forest floor and overt sauvage-inflected scents that are trimmed in the barest hint of menthol. The big-bodied, powerful and broad-shouldered flavors possess very good mid-palate density in the context of what is typical for the 2017 vintage, all wrapped in a moderately austere finish that is noticeably rustic.
Rich and muscular, the 2019 Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru Les Vaucrains (Maison Louis Jadot) exhibits aromas of cassis, sweet berry fruit, loamy soil, dark chocolate and spices. Medium to full-bodied, deep and concentrated, with powdery tannins and a generous core of fruit.
