Very spicy aromas include those of plum, black cherry and violet. The supple, round and delicious medium-bodied flavors are not especially concentrated yet there is fine depth and minerality to the refreshing and sneaky long finale.
There is both very good volume and vibrancy to the powerful middle weight plus flavors that brim with dry extract on the tannic, serious and robust finale.
The 2018 Volnay Les Santenots 1er Cru has a clean, precise, oyster-shell-tinged bouquet that unfurls nicely in the glass. The lightly spiced palate is medium-bodied with sappy red berry fruit, fine acidity and a gentle, caressing finish. Quite persistent in the mouth. A well-crafted Santenots.
This has a very perfumed, punchy bouquet of blackberry, raspberry and a light marine influence. The palate is well balanced, with supple tannin and more black fruit than red.
Strong wood influence all but overshadows the spicy black pinot, plum and spice aromas. The medium-bodied flavors are rich to point of being velvety yet there is no lack of power or punch to the firm and moderately robust.
