Powerful, serious and youthfully austere finale.
The 2018 Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru La Romanée (Maison Louis Jadot) is one of the high points of the portfolio this year, offering up a lovely bouquet of white flowers, pear, almond paste and wheat toast. On the palate, it’s medium to full-bodied, satiny and enveloping, with lively acids, a compelling sense of completeness and good length on the finish.
The well-balanced palate display a fine bead of acidity. One of Jadot’s more elegant Chassagne-Montrachets, with a detailed, saline finish that gets the saliva flowing. This has great potential.
Less fruity and more minerally on the nose than the Caillerets, dominated by aromas of menthol and powdered stone. A serious, very concentrated rocky expression yet surprisingly pliant in the middle palate and a bit sweetened by its oak component. There’s excellent texture here, as well as lovely length.
Moderately firm reduction overshadows the underlying fruit today. Otherwise there is a borderline creamy mouth feel to the ultra-rich medium weight plus flavors that possess an abundance of dry extract that pushes the firm core of ripe acidity to the background on the youthfully austere finish where once again a trace of bitter lemon arises.
