This too is aromatically very pretty with its perfumed aromas of red and dark cherry, violet and sandalwood wisps. There is very fine volume to the powerful and mineral-driven larger-scaled flavors that exude a refreshing salinity on the balanced, long finish.

The 2019 Volnay 1er Cru Clos des Chênes (Domaine Louis Jadot) opens in the glass with notes of cherries, red berries, orange rind, raw cocoa and spices. Medium to full-bodied, ample and lively.

The 2019 Volnay Clos des Chênes Premier Cru has a precocious bouquet featuring ample red cherries, kirsch and light balsamic aromas, hints of potpourri emerging with time. The palate is sweet on the entry, offering candied red fruit laced with orange zest and vanilla pod. Very fine.

Aromas of sweet wild berries, raw cocoa and dried flowers, deftly framed by new oak, introduce the 2018 Volnay 1er Cru Clos des Chênes (Maison Louis Jadot), a medium to full-bodied, muscular and structured wine built around powdery tannins and lively acids. This, too, is a success this year.

The 2018 Volnay Clos des Chênes 1er Cru is blessed with the most complex and engaging bouquet of the five Volnays from Jadot this year. The very well-balanced palate features fine-grained tannins, well-judged acidity and a sense of harmony toward the finish.
