The 2018 Beaune 1er Cru Grèves (Domaine Gagey) is showing nicely from bottle, offering up aromas of red cherries, pomegranate, plums and woodsmoke. Medium to full-bodied, bright and vibrant, with powdery but youthfully assertive structuring tannins and fine depth at the core, this is one of the cooler, more classically balanced 2018s in the range this year, with lively fruit tones and bright acids.
This red is rich and fleshy, revealing black cherry, black currant, vanilla, toasty oak and earth aromas and flavors. A well-built backbone of tannins and lively acidity lends support and drives the dense, tactile finish.
