Aromas of raspberries, rose petals, sweet soil tones and warm spices introduce the 2019 Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Baudes (Domaine Gagey), a medium to full-bodied, fleshy and elegantly muscular wine with a concentrated core of fruit, ripe tannins and a long, sapid finish. This cuvée is another fixture among the portfolio’s highlights.
The palate is medium-bodied with a touch of licorice on the entry and a long, sweet finish.
Heady notes of red cherry shimmer with both Morello and Amarena overtones on the nose of this wine. The fresh palate brings even more red fruit, this time wagering all on vivid tartness. The body has slight crunch, sinuous yet firm with a smoky overtone and great finesse. Freshness frames all.
Here too there is enough menthol to distract from the more deeply pitched aromas of black cherry, cassis and violet. There is excellent volume to the powerful and solidly concentrated middle weight plus flavors that exhibit both good minerality and a taut muscularity while offering very fine length on the dusty and built-to-age finale.
