Good bright, dark red. Lovely perfumed aromas of rose petal and iron shavings. Sweet, supple red fruit flavors show good concentration and aromatic persistence if not quite the density or cut of the best examples of this grand cru.
Marvelous. A striking, nuanced bouquet melds into sweet red cherries, mint and spices in a wine of pure sensuality and finesse. This is the most feminine and aromatically lifted of the six Gevrey Grand Crus at Jadot. The wine’s mid-weight structure suggests it will be ready to drink sooner than some of the other Grand Crus in the range.
The 2012 Griotte-Chambertin Grand Cru has a focused and stonier bouquet compared to the Charmes: relatively strict with blackberry and limestone scents. The palate is elegant and sensual, perhaps more how I was expecting the Charmes-Chambertin to perform, adorned with a lush and generous finish that fans out with competence and class. This is a fine Griotte-Chambertin.
Moderately saturated medium red. Lovely perfumed lift to the aromas of red cherry, crushed stone and rose petal; I would have picked this blind as coming from Chambolle-Musigny. Not the last word in depth but vibrant, high-pitched and precise, with a saline complexity to its red fruit and floral flavors. Finishes juicy, bright and long, with an impression of elevated acidity. Assistant winemaker Frederic Barnier told me that “this old-school grower never picks late.”
