Sun-dried cranberries, stones and oranges on the nose follow through to a juicy, angular palate with firm tannins that grow to a crescendo. Expansive and mineral, with a transparent and linear finish.

The Michele Chiarlo 2019 Barolo Cannubi is a fleshed-out expression of Nebbiolo with a medium build and good structure. There is a dusty mineral tone on the bouquet that transitions to crushed rose, cassis, blood orange and violet. Enjoying excellent exposures on steep slopes, Cannubi is always a classic wine, but it is especially so in this balanced vintage.

Deep and complex nose with red and dark berries, walnuts, dark spice and dried citrus peel. Some undergrowth notes, too. Medium to full body, velvety and chewy but not astringent with well integrated tannins. Meaty and structured with excellent length

Very perfumed with dried flowers and sliced strawberries with some meat on the nose. Medium body. Fresh and linear. Tight at the end. Shows finesse

The 2019 Barolo Cannubi is laced with hints of kirsch, cedar, dried leaves, mint and leather. Here, too, there’s a good bit of complexity, but these are the aromas and flavors I would expect to see in a slightly older wine. I would give the tannins a year or two to soften, and also not push my luck on aging. Sweet floral and spice notes linger
