This ruby colored Pinot Noir from the Edna Valley opens with a mild black raspberry and cola bouquet with hints of forest floor and vanilla. On the palate, this wine is medium bodied with medium plus acidity. The mouthfeel is balanced, round and mouthwatering. The flavor profile is a spiced plum, vanilla, and oak blend with notes of pomegranate and black tea. I also picked up some hints of rhubarb and stone dust. The finish is dry and its mild tannins, flavors, and acidity drift away nicely.

The maritime climate makes for a long hang time, and this concentrated red from the Cakebread Family sends up scents of tilled soil, cherrywood, tobacco, and Porcini mushroom. The gate opens wide for savory, earthbound notes. Cola and white pepper enter mid-way, enhancing the wine’s spicy soul. Juicy, with balanced acidity and a finish of plum pudding and clove
