Dark chocolate, ripe but fresh blackberries, cigar box, grilled pepper and dark spices. Juicy and medium- to full-bodied on the palate with firm, vertical tannins in a fine-grained mode. Structured and quite long. Energetic despite the high level of alcohol. Nicely austerity from the firm, fine-grained tannins.

Sweet aromas of maraschino cherry complement notes of oak-driven vanilla bean. A good amount of the cranberry, cherry and raspberry flavors are lifted by vigorous acidity on the smooth palate. It’s full-bodied and has a finish marked by notes of chocolate-covered coffee beans.

The 2018 Malbec Albaneve was produced with grapes from Campo de los Andes in Valle de Uco. It’s a ripe and powerful red with 15% alcohol and a full body, very fine tannins and the freshness from the high-altitude zone. It fermented with indigenous yeasts in small concrete vats for 28 days, and the wine matured in 225- and 600-liter French oak barrels for 12 months. This comes from the highest part of the vineyard, quite aromatic. It’s very Valle de Uco, with very good balance in the palate. This is only the second vintage for this single-vineyard bottling, and it’s one step above the initial 2017.

Sweet blueberries, cassis and spices to the nose with some walnuts, mocha and pine cone. Very dense and structured with plenty of nicely chewy tannins. Juicy, flavorful and pretty long.

Opens elegantly, with a trace of hibiscus around wild berry and mountain herbs, but gains some grip midpalate, offering lots of slate and spice notes. Ends with firming, chalky tannins. Best after 2024.
