A very pretty combination of ripe red cherry, raspberry and soft floral highlights. The round, plush and fleshy middle weight flavors possess an equally lovely texture that again contrasts somewhat with the dusty and firm finale that is reasonably well-balanced.

The 2019 Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Les Chaumes (Maison Louis Jadot) looks promising, bursting with aromas of blackberries, cassis, sweet soil tones and spices. Medium to full-bodied, supple and enveloping with powdery tannins and a lively core of fruit, it concludes with a long, flavorful finish. It’s as good a Chaumes as I can remember tasting from Jadot.

The palate is medium-bodied with fine-grained tannins and a smooth texture. Quite opulent in style, showing a touch of vanilla from the oak on the finish that will be assimilated with time.

This too exhibits very generous wood that in this case does fight somewhat with the spicy mix of plum liqueur and red and dark currant aromas. The supple, round and borderline heavy flavors also reflect a touch of mocha.

The 2018 Vosne-Romanée Les Chaumes 1er Cru has a well-defined bouquet of vivacious red berry fruit mixed with crushed stone and subtle pressed iris aromas. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins and gentle grip. Gains density toward the finish, which displays good backbone.
