A bright, light-footed white, this crackles with mouthwatering acidity and salinity, and carries flavors of nectarine, cherry pit, pink grapefruit granita and ground ginger on the creamy palate.
The 2016 Riesling “Roche Calcaire” is deep, intense yet pure and fine on the limestone-fresh nose. Full-bodied and lush on the palate, this is an elegant, piquant and well-structured Riesling with a long, tightly woven, lingering and salty finish.
The flinty smoke of reduction covers the nose but the palate brims with urgent lemon flavors. Their fine acidity seems to be powered across the palate to create a lovely, tingling mouthfeel. The body is slender, the fruit is pure and the finish is long.
Bright straw. Ripe, mineral-driven aromas of nectarine and peach. Pure, piercing and densely packed, this is at once concentrated and rich but also very precise and focused thanks to a laser beam of acidity. Richer and riper than the other two “roche” wines from Zind-Humbrecht. Saline and very citrusy (it’s the calcaire) but also fleshy and broad (it’s the clay) with a hint of pink grapefruit and botanical herbs at the back.
It has the deep, saturated ripeness of the 2015 vintage, presented as baked apple, as well as a cool, refreshing briskness—the crunch of yellow plums, the bite of pickled ginger. It’s a zesty, satisfying, biodynamic riesling to serve with hamachi kama.
