A rich and powerful Chassagne-Montrachet with some pineapple character, due to the very ripe vintage, next to the citrus that we expect. Built on quite an imposing scale, but with lovely lemon-zest freshness and fine tannins that support the flamboyant body. Long, quite stony finish. From organically grown grapes. Drink or hold.

There are more tropical scents of pineapple and touches of passion fruit. The palate is well balanced with modest depth and fine acidity.

A distinctly ripe, nicely layered and reasonably fresh pepper and earth inflected black pinot fruit nose definitely reflects the high maturity of the vintage, yet it avoids the roasted fruit quality. There is fine richness, volume and mid-palate density to the delicious medium-bodied flavors that possess the same fine depth as the nose on the lingering, firm and slightly rustic finale.

The 2018 Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Morgeot Clos de la Chapelle Rouge (Duc de Magenta) is showing nicely in bottle, revealing a rich bouquet of cherries, dark berry fruit, licorice, warm spices and hints of loamy soil. Medium to full-bodied, fleshy and concentrated, it’s built around rich, powdery tannins and succulent acids.

The 2019 Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Morgeot Clos de la Chapelle Rouge (Duc de Magenta) is shaping up nicely, unwinding in the glass to reveal aromas of cherries, rose petals, sweet berries, spices and espresso roast.
