Wafting from the glass with scents of plum, raw cocoa, spices and toasty oak, the 2019 Pernand-Vergelesses 1er Cru Clos de la Croix de Pierre (Domaine des Héritiers Jadot) is medium to full-bodied, tensile and lively, with a bright core of fruit and fine, powdery tannins, concluding with a chalky finish.
In this wine, smoky red-cherry aromas are vivid. They are also central to the palate where the juiciness and smokiness are accentuated and given a brooding spin. Firm tannins make for a crunchy frame and promise evolution.
The sleek, vibrant and nicely rich middle weight flavors possess both good detail and evident minerality on the moderately austere finale.
A graphite edge leads off in this cherry- and raspberry-flavored red. Firm and juicy, with a mineral element lingering on the finish.
