Here too the nose is exuberantly spice and quintessential Vosne in character with its slightly more elegant nose of red and dark currant, clove, soy and star anise nuances. The supple and relatively forward medium-bodied flavors possess a caressing, even seductive, texture that also firms up as it sits on the mouthcoating and sneaky long finale.
Aromas of cherries, ripe berries, plum preserve and spices preface the 2019 Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Les Suchots (Maison Louis Jadot), a medium to full-bodied, layered and fleshy wine with a generous core of fruit, ripe tannins and succulent acids.
The 2019 Vosne-Romanée Les Suchots Premier Cru is elegant and surprisingly understated on the nose, like a couple of other growers’ this year. It takes time to unfold and reveal crushed strawberry, blueberry and violet aromas, plus a little graphite in the background. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, fleshy and quite generous, and sleek toward the finish. This is a classy offering.
A rounded note of vanilla surrounds hints of red cherry on the nose of this wine, while overtones of nutmeg shimmer. The palate also displays this creamy, rich seam of vanilla and baking spice, but it serves as a backdrop for the red-cherry fruit. Freshness frames it all while fine tannins brush gently.
A very spicy and mentholated nose features notes of Asian-style tea, black cherry liqueur and a similar whiff of sandalwood. Supple, round and very seductive, indeed suave, flavors.
