Splendid aromas of underbrush, black fruit, spices and cocoa powdes – very inviting. Delicious balance of sweetness, black cherry fruit, kirsch and bramble on the palate with ripe, softening tannins.
Fonseca’s 2001 Quinta do Panascal boasts a nose filled with rich, dense, brooding fruit. Blackberries and plums rush the palate; it’s lush and fruity, yet given shape by some dusty tannins. Turns chocolaty on the finish.
Structured, complex wine that is only just beginning to hint at considerable depth of powerful, rich flavors. The structure is dry, a little lean, but with dense tannins. The fruit, rich plums and stone fruits is just coming through.
