An elegant, medium-bodied red, with a ripe, rich core of black plum reduction, mulled cherry and black licorice flavors underscored by toasty accents of apple wood smoke and grilled herbs. Fresh and fluid on the well-spiced finish.

Packaged in a heavy glass bottle with fun exotic-looking stenciling on the front, the Feudo Maccari 2019 Sicilia Syrah Mahâris is a full-bodied red that marries this robust grape with the sun-drenched territory of Sicily. The wine is soft and richly layered with lots of dark fruit, spice, baking chocolate and sweet tobacco. You get loads of intensity here on all the senses. Fruit comes from limestone soils and 30-year-old vines with south and southeast exposures.

A well-meshed red, framing flavors of baked blackberry and steeped black cherry with supple tannins and light citrus peel acidity. Medium- to full-bodied, with hints of dusty sage, spice box and loamy earth lingering on the finish.

Very dark in the glass. So much herb and licorice character to the prunes and dates on the nose and palate This is a full-bodied blast of savory and fruity, mediterranean-style syrah character that fills your mouth and stays there for a long while.

The 2017 Syrah Maharis hails from the calcareous soils of the Val di Noto. Here I’m finding a dramatic display of crushed blackberry, smoke and wild herbs, further evolving to show hints of plum and dark chocolate. It’s silky in texture yet immediately firmed up with a display of tart black fruit accompanied by an orange zest twang, savory spice and zesty acids.
