Comtes de Champagne Blanc de Blancs 2014

The 2014 Comtes de Champagne is a fine follow-up to the 2013. It shows the more linear personality of the year, with plenty of energy driving its overall feel. The fruit profile is on the riper side, but the wine has a decidedly lithe build that is quite attractive. Hints of yellow orchard fruit, chamomile, dried flowers and crushed rocks linger. This bottle was disgorged in July 2023, ahead of the commercial release. The 2014 is hugely promising at this early stage.

The 2012 Comtes de Champagne Rosé is s total stunner. What a knockout! It is easily one of the finest Comtes Rosés I have tasted in recent years. Rich and enveloping, with tremendous depth, the 2012 has it all. Bright red-toned fruit, blood orange, white pepper, mint and slate infuse the palate with striking depth and nuance. The 2012 finishes with a classic sense of austerity. I admire its tension and overall resonance. The 2012 is a heady, exotic Champagne. I would be thrilled to own it. The blend is 70% Pinot Noir and 30% Chardonnay, with 14% still red Pinot. Dosage is 9 grams per liter.

A tightly meshed Champagne, crisp and focused, with the lacy, lively mousse carrying flavors of black currant, nectarine, blanched almond and spring forest. Reveals accents of lime blossoms and ground ginger that linger on the creamy finish.
