The finest Chardonnay grapes are selected from the Nozzole estate’s 222 acres of vineyards at 984 feet in elevation. In order to obtain concentration and complexity, yields are kept low. The vines for Le Bruniche are on one of the estate’s highest hillsides, where excellent sun exposure and limestone and marl soils help to maintain an optimal ground temperature. For this wine, the grapes were gently pressed and the juice cold settled for 24 hours. The must was fermented for about 15 days in stainless steel vats at a controlled temperature and stayed on the lees for about 3 months. Malolactic fermentation took place in stainless steel tanks and the wine was aged at least two months in bottle before release. The wine sees no oak contact.

2017 vintage
Harvest Note
The 2017 vintage defies easy description. The cycle of events through the growing season were unusual. The winter was uncharacteristically mild and dry. Vines never quite remained dormant for long, and the area was experiencing a drought. Fast forward to spring, and moderate temperatures prompted early budding. Thankfully, the area was not affected by an early frost. Early budding varieties had more success through the entire season. By May however, the drought had intensified, unusually high summertime temperatures arrived, and late budding varieties suffered to set fruit properly. Yields were lower, so care and hard work in the vineyard were most important. An earlier than usual harvest arrived, yet the quality of the fruit was undiminished despite the circumstances. Overall the purity of fruit and aromatics maintain typical characteristics of the region.
Tasting Note
Classic citrus aromas complemented by apples and peaches, represent a distinctive wine with excellent balance, outstanding acidity and long finish.
Food Pairing
Pairs well with fish, shellfish and chicken, whether these are sauteed simply, roasted or served in salads.

About the Grape

Though it has a distinctive profile, Chardonnay reflects other factors such as soil composition and vinification technique. Chardonnay is a reliable, hardy and prolific vine whose only real vulnerabilities are frost and uneven development of fruit.
