The Montes Classic Chardonnay hails from some of the finest Chardonnay-growing sites in Chile's Casablanca and Curico Valleys. The Casablanca Valley contributes a cool climate expression of Chardonnay with fresh citrus and floral notes, while the warmer Curico Valley adds tropical components to the blend including pineapple, peaches and apricots.

2018 vintage
Harvest Note
The 2016-2017 vintage began drier than normal as the normal winter rains were lighter than average. Spring frosts in the coolest blocks affected the early development of buds, shoots, and fruit set. The warm summer brought on higher sugar levels although the fruit was able to maintain its natural acidity. Through proper canopy management, the typical varietal aromas and flavors were retained. The rest of the growing season was smooth allowing the fruit to develop evenly and produce very good quality in the final crop.
Tasting Note
Brilliant light golden-yellow in color. The aromatic nose offers notes of pineapple, mango, and apricots against a backdrop of white flowers, vanilla, and toasted hazelnuts. The palate is well balanced with rich acidity creating a fresh juiciness in the wine with a pleasingly fruity finish.
Food Pairing
Pair with salmon ceviche, sea bass with sautéed mushrooms, fettucini Alfredo, and razor clams.

About the Grape

Chardonnay
Though it has a distinctive profile, Chardonnay reflects other factors such as soil composition and vinification technique. Chardonnay is a reliable, hardy and prolific vine whose only real vulnerabilities are frost and uneven development of fruit.
