The vineyards lie on the steep, southwest facing Langhe hillsides. Grapes are harvested an average of 10 to 15 days later than normal, resulting in extremely rich musts high in sugar and lower in acidity. Temperature controlled fermentation is followed by malolactic fermentation and aging in French Allier and Slavonian oak followed by additional aging in bottle.

Harvest Note
After a cold winter with temperatures above the seasonal average, March saw an early revival of vegetation followed by a rainy spring with good temperatures. In June we had a summer with abnormally high temperatures. These conditions lasted just over a week followed by alternate days of rain and sun. July and August were characterized by below average temperatures, with several cloudy days but no excessive rainfall. In September the weather greatly improved with daytime temperatures around 80-81 degrees and night temperatures of 50 - 52 degrees - optimal conditions for slow ripening and the development of perfumes. On average, we then had lower yields then previous years but the quality of the wines is excellent.
Tasting Note
Pure, high-toned red berry aromas and flavors with green peppercorn, spice and almond notes, surround a core of vivid acidity and moderate tannins. Similar in character to Barolo, but more delicate, this Barbaresco has great aging potential.
Food Pairing
This is a great wine for roasts, large game such as wild boar and venison and game birds such as pheasant, quail and partridge.

About the Grape

Nebbiolo
Young Nebbiolo can be tough, acidic and tannic; but mature, its blackberry and wild cherry flavors and aromas develop complex and sublime violet, rose petal, truffle and tar notes.
