The fruit comes from the hilly provinces of Arezzo and Siena in the Chianti region of Tuscany, grown in layers of clay, lime and schist. After handpicking, grapes are brought to the winery for a traditional vinification that includes pumping over at least four times a day. Thirty percent is aged in 793 - 1321 gallon oak vats prior to bottling.

Harvest Note
2016 began cool and rainy, which led to slightly reduced yields for the season. July saw hot temperatures, with only one rainfall in mid-August to relieve the stress on the vines. The late-ripening Sangiovese took advantage of rain mid-September, which was followed by beautiful weather with good swings in temperature between day and night. Manual harvesting was carried out from mid-September until mid-October.
