Bolgheri’s exceptional climate is moderated by sea breezes from the nearby Tirrhenian Sea, and the vineyards’ clay and sand soils are ideal for Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. The delicate Merlot was picked during the first half of September, while the robust Cabernets and Petit Verdot were harvested in the second half of the month. Grapes come from densely planted vineyards and low yields, which produce wines with concentration and complexity. Temperature-controlled fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks, and maceration on the skins takes 20-22 days. The wine is matured at least 3 months in bottle before release.

2017 vintage
Harvest Note
The 2017 vintage defies easy description. The cycle of events through the growing season were unusual. The winter was uncharacteristically mild and dry. Vines never quite remained dormant for long, and the area was experiencing a drought. Fast forward to spring, and moderate temperatures prompted early budding. Thankfully, the area was not affected by an early frost. Early budding varieties had more success through the entire season. By May however, the drought had intensified, unusually high summertime temperatures arrived, and late budding varieties suffered to set fruit properly. Yields were lower, so care and hard work in the vineyard were most important. An earlier than usual harvest arrived, yet the quality of the fruit was undiminished despite the circumstances. Overall the purity of fruit and aromatics maintain typical characteristics of the region.
Tasting Note
Outstanding balance between delicate flowers and green/citrus fruits. Outstanding minerality balanced with an elegant acidity.
Food Pairing
Pairs well with fish, shellfish and light or vegetarian hors d'oeuvres.
