Grapes: 64% Merlot, 21% Cabernet Franc, 8% Petit Verdot, 7% Cabernet Sauvignon
Biserno is the wine that gives the name to the estate, a thought-provoking wine reflecting the excellent terroir and micro-climate of the coastal area of the Upper Maremma. Only the finest grapes are selected for the blend, resulting in a wine of depth, intensity, complexity, longevity and elegance. Soil type is part clay, part Bolgheri conglomerate. Vine training is spurred cordon with plant density of 6,500 vines per hectare. Fermentation took place for 14 to 21 days at 77 to 82 Fahrenheit. 60% percent of the wine underwent malolactic fermentation in oak barrels, the remainder in stainless steel. The wine was aged for 15 months in 75% new French oak barriques and the rest in one year old barrels. The wine was further aged for 12 months in bottle before release.
Wine & Spirits2016 vintage
2016 can be considered a vintage with great potential on the Tuscan coast in general and for Tenuta di Biserno and Campo di Sasso in particular. It was a warmer than normal winter but a cooler than normal spring with frequent rainfalls well into June. The growth was balanced and the vines were well prepared for the warm and dry July and August and did not suffer any excessive water deficit stress. Ripening was also balanced and the relatively cool nights in August helped retain fresh fruit aromas and flavors.
Biserno shows immediately its quality with taste of impeccable cherry, blackberry and dark prune flavors. It presents savory spice and tobacco framed with precision and focus. There is no doubt that this is one of the best editions of Biserno.

about the grape +
Cabernet Franc usually shows tart red cherry and wild currant aromas and flavors with an herbal, spicy character. In the Loire, esp. Chinon and Saumur-Champigny, this grape shows firm minerality.
Cabernet Sauvignon is adaptable to various growing conditions, and is known for its low yield and late ripeness. It generally produces full-bodied wines with substantial acidity and tannins.
Merlot makes plump, succulent wines to drink young or opulently massive wines for aging. Has silky, blackberry and currant fruit, with spice, earth, tobacco and chocolate notes, and soft tannins.
Petit Verdot makes a dark, firmly structured, tannic wine with superbly balancing acidity, and fresh, full flavors and aromas of spice, pepper and black fruits with notes of violets.
