Pighin

Pinot Grigio Collio DOC 2017 play

Region: Italy / Friuli-Venezia Giulia
Grapes: 100% Pinot Grigio

Collio is Friuli’s finest area of production and the Pighin Collio estate is ranked among the top five in the region with its southern-exposed, low-yielding vineyards on deep sandstone soils. The grapes for all of Pighin’s wines are handpicked and pressed in state-of-the-art pneumatic presses. The must is fermented and matured in stainless steel vats (no oak is used), allowing the characteristics of the grape variety to show beautifully.

harvest note

The 2017 season started with beautiful, seasonal weather. The second half of April saw a sudden drop in temperature, causing a very small amount of damage to the vines. In May, optimal weather conditions favored the recovery of the vineyards allowing for blooming between the end of the month and the first week of June. Harvest of the grapes began on the 22nd of August, showing excellent sugar strength and acidity that resulted in a quality harvest.

tasting note

Brilliant straw yellow in color, this wine has engaging citrus notes and white fruit on the nose and palate. It has lively acidity, a surprising body and a clean, fresh finish.

food pairing

Pleasant aperitif, with seafood appetizers, grilled fish, excellent with white meats accompanied by sweet sauces
