Reyna Barbaresco DOCG 2015 play

Region: Italy / Piedmont / Barbaresco
Grapes: 100% Nebbiolo

The vineyards lie on the steep, southwest facing Langhe hillsides. Grapes are harvested an average of 10 to 15 days later than normal, resulting in extremely rich musts high in sugar and lower in acidity. Temperature controlled fermentation is followed by malolactic fermentation and aging in French Allier and Slavonian oak followed by additional aging in bottle.

harvest note

The 2015 vintage has seen a long summer season with little rain. The rainfall on the second half of August has been well-timed and it has contributed in restoring balanced water conditions in the vines. An appropriate thinning of bunches, aiming at leaving 6-7 bunches per vine, and the weather during the successive weeks of September – sunny and dry with an adequate temperature range between day and night – have led to an exceptional maturation of grapes with particularly silky tannins. Harvest has been done at standard time (September 30 / October 9). An excellent vintage that has brought the Barbaresco to the height of its sensorial qualities of femininity and elegance, but also endowed it with structure and silkiness in flavor.

tasting note

Pure, high-toned red berry aromas and flavors with green peppercorn, spice and almond notes, surround a core of vivid acidity and moderate tannins. Similar in character to Barolo, but more delicate, this Barbaresco has great aging potential.

food pairing

This is a great wine for roasts, large game such as wild boar and venison and game birds such as pheasant, quail and partridge.
