Contrada Santo Spirito Animalucente Etna DOC 2017
Grapes: 85% Carricante, 15% Minnella
Contrada Santo Spirito is the latest project from Antonio Moretti Cuseri, the owner of the world class Tenuta Sette Ponti and Podere Orma in Tuscany and Feudo Maccari in Noto, Sicily. Dr. Morretti fell in love with the estate, which is located between Passopisciaro and Randazzo at the foot of Mount Etna, located in the province of Catania which is considered one of the most beautiful places in Italy. The 35 acres estate is located at 2297 feet above sea level and is planted to autochthonous varieties, Nerello Mascalese, Carricante and Minnella.
The 2017 growing season began very cold, with frost extending well into spring followed by an extreme heatwave in the beginning of summer. The growing season did not begin to balance out until August, where two significant rainfalls brought much needed respite to the plants, lowering temperatures and allowing the grapes to photosynthesize in optimal conditions. September saw a drop in temperatures, with prolonged and sunny days, which encouraged the plants to divert all the necessary nutrients to the clusters in order to obtain a product of excellent quality from the aromatic and polyphenolic points of view. Harvest time brought a very balanced season with gorgeous weather that allowed the grapes to excel, producing a quality wine.
Animalucente is an elegant wine characterized by its straw yellow color with golden highlights. Flavor rich, intense, with immediate freshness and a bouquet of ripe, elegant fruit. In the mouth, the wine is enveloping and well-rounded with citrus notes. Very good length and beautiful after taste.
Pairs well with white meats and grilled fish.
