Grapes for the 2013 Estate Pinot Noir were chosen in our four different Certified Organic (CCOF) estate vineyards which are all located within four miles of the Chateau. 11 clones of Pinot were used and each one contributes its unique flavor profile and personality to make this compelling blend which is truly a mosaic of our Carneros terroir. The fruit was gently de-stemmed, leaving many whole berries. A “cold soak” followed for five full days prior to fermentation, which took nine to twelve days in small open-topped vats. The fermenting must was punched three times a day to heighten color and flavor development. After pressing off, the finished wine went directly into French oak barrels where it rested for ten months until bottling.

harvest note

2013 was an ideal growing season in Carneros. The summer was long with full sun which extended the growing season and offered good quality and quantity. While the temperatures were moderate, which is typical of Carneros, the grapes were ripe and full of flavor, producing a classic harvest.

The 2013 edition of our Estate Pinot noir packs a full range of flavors. Beginning with the nose one encounters black raspberry, cherry, and plum along with savory notes of loamy earth, cola, and sandal wood. 10 months of barrel age lends a sweetness that balances the supple tannin from this exceptional vintage producing an intense full bodied Pinot noir. The hallmark of Domaine Carneros Pinot Noir is the texture and this wine delivers with a supple and silky mouth-feel guaranteed to please.
