Country

France, Alsace
95 Points Decanter 2017 vintage

tasting note

The nose is incredibly marked by the vineyard's strong character with lots of smoke and flint. The palate is powerful, intense and very long. The good acid balance brings some elements of freshness. More Rangen than Gewürztraminer, this wine will go through time very slowly.

points of distinction

  • The Rangen Grand Cru's two parcels of Gewürztraminer grapes are planted within feet of the Thur River, which is a source of ripening warmth and encourages desirable noble rot
  • The Rangen Grand Cru's unique terroir, with opposing influences of high altitude (slowing ripening) yet warm volcanic soils and dramatically steep slope with best exposure (speeding it up), cultivates optimal ripeness
  • Rangen Grand Cru wines consistently receive top ratings
