90 Points Wine Enthusiast 2009 vintage

tasting note

Bright yellow color. The nose shows great aromatic intensity with fresh exotic fruits (litchi), citrus zests and an overall sensation of maturity while the botrytis remains discreet. The palate is an profound continuation of the nose. The Herrenweg has a restrained influence on the wine, allowing the Gewürztraminer to speak out in an elegant fashion. The wine finishes on an attractive round sweet mouth-feel, superbly balanced with a nice citrusy acidity. Although this wine is already very approachable, it will benefit from extra aging.

points of distinction

  • Herrenweg Vineyard's 60-year-old vines' roots grow quite deep, aided by bio-dynamic farming, finding minerality and adding concentration to the wine
  • Herrenweg Vineyard is primarily planted to Gewürztraminer, since this grape performs so well in the warmth generated by the pebbles in the soil
  • Grapes are harvested at optimal ripeness with a generous proportion benefiting from noble rot
