Brunello Poggio Doria is the wine of sunset, the wine from the West. Poggio Doria's vineyard is located in the North-West side of Montalcino with South/West/North-West exposure. The vineyard is approximately 853 feet above seal level and composed of jasper, sand and clay. Vines are planted using training system of spurred cordon with 2166 plants per acre. Harvest is conducted manuallly into cases in the first week of October. The juice is fermented for at least 26 days at a controlled temperature of 82°F. After maceration the wine is matured for 18 months in new and used French oak Tonneaux (Allier); followed by 12 months in large oak barrels from Slavonia. Finally the wine is bottle aged for at least 12 months.

Harvest Note
The year began with very little rain and moderate temperatures. Precipitation continued to be scarce through the spring. May consisted of cooler temperatures, which rose steadily throughout the month. The vines showed excellent vegetative conditions. Precipitation continued to be scarce in June. The maximum temperatures were above 86°F, but then fell sharply in the last five days of the month, when the only significant rainfall of the month occurred. The rather cool nights of July partly offset the water shortage. In August little rain was concentrated around the 13th, with a total of about 0.4 inches. Temperatures were high, especially in the first part of the month. The temperature range allowed adequate ripening, with good pigmentation of the skins, concentrating the aromas and dry extract, which are ideal characteristics for the production of high-quality grapes. Moderate temperatures and rainfall in day/night temperature differences remained significant. These conditions, combined with good ventilation, allowed the harvesting of healthy grapes with important organoleptic characteristics.
Tasting Note
Ruby red color with garnet highlights. Ample and highly complex flavors at the nose develop then to mineral notes of graphite, fruity tones of red berries and spicy aromas of clove and vanilla. Long and balanced on the palate, with a smooth and persistent finish characterized by velvetly tannins.
Food Pairing
Pairs well with meat, seasoned cheese, and game.
