Cava is Spain's traditional method sparkling wine, produced mainly in the Penedès region in northeastern Spain. Crisp, fruity and well-balanced, Cava has grown in popularity in recent years and can be found throughout the U.S. market. Consumers are drawn to the straightforward flavor, long-lasting bubbles, and excellent value of Cava. Parellada, Macabeo, and Xarel-lo are the main grapes used in Cava which is crafted using the traditional method (the same process which is followed in Champagne) and according to the demands of the D.O. designation. Cava is classified by the sugar content and length of aging. Ranging from driest to sweetest,

Cava is classified as: Extra Brut, Brut, Extra Dry, Dry, Semi-Dry, and Sweet.

Poema brings you the most popular of the Cava selections, Brut and Extra-Dry, each made from a traditional blend of Macabeo, Xarel-lo and Parellada grapes grown in the Penedès valley.

Poema Cava is sourced from 152 hectares of vineyards located between the high, central and low regions of the Penedès valley in the Catalan province of Barcelona with each region best suited for specific varieties.
  • Low Penedès (located along the coast.): Macabeo
  • Central Penedès (up to 500m above sea level): Macabeo and Xarel-lo
  • High Penedès (over 500m above sea level): Parellada
Twenty-nine hectares of vineyards around the villages of Sant Sadurní d’Anoia (the birthplace of Cava) and Subirats are owned and 123 hectares in four different areas are controlled through long term co-operation programs with local farmers.
