Grapes: 100% Sangiovese
La Forra Riserva is produced as a single-vineyard Chianti only in exceptional vintages. Only the finest Sangiovese grapes are selected for this wine, from Nozzole’s 200 acres of vineyards in the Chianti Classico zone between Florence and Siena. La Forra is among the estate’s finest parcels, with 35-year-old vines on a south-facing slope at 300 meters in elevation. Grapes were manually harvested, destemmed and crushed. Fermentation was on the skins in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks and maceration on the lees took 15 days, followed by malolactic fermentation. The wine was aged 16 months in French oak barrels, with a minimum of 6 months in bottle.

2015 has shown to be a very good vintage. After a mild and rainy winter, the vegetative start was in the second week of April with the arrival of spring and higher temperatures. The spring rains helped a lot the vegetation and ensured the water supply for the following summer. In June and mid-July temperatures were above the seasonal average, but by the end of July the temperatures lowered, returning to the average thanks to long rainy days, which was really good for the vines. The grapes were of an excellent quality. The wonderful structure and the elegant, soft tannins are the main elements of this vintage.
Ripe fruits and sweet aromatic notes of spices on the nose, with the slightest hint of mint. It is generously soft on the palate and ends with tannins of finest class.
Pairs well with meats, aged cheese and more complex first and second courses.

AGING: The first 2 months are in stainless steel, 22-24 months in seasoned Slavonian oak barrels. Aged in the bottle a minimum 6 months.

Both La Forra and the Chianti Classico Riserva are produced from the superb La Forra parcel, the estate’s finest vineyard, situated on a southerly-exposed slope at an altitude of 900 feet. The single-vineyard wine La Forra is made only in exceptional vintages.
