Tuscan Vines2012 vintage
2012 started with an unusually cold and dry winter. With the arrival of spring, the dry soil warmed up quickly and bud burst took place relatively early. There was a bit of rainfall in May which helped the vines get through the dry summer. The summer temperatures were moderate with no extremes until the end of August when the temperature went above 95°F for a short few days. Some light rains in early September were a welcomed boost for the vines and helped them bring the grapes to phenolic ripeness.
An intense and complex nose of black fruit followed by toasty spicy notes. The palate is elegant and balance with fine rounded tannins.
Pair with braised or roasted meats and hard cheeses.

about the grape +
Cabernet Franc usually shows tart red cherry and wild currant aromas and flavors with an herbal, spicy character. In the Loire, esp. Chinon and Saumur-Champigny, this grape shows firm minerality.
Cabernet Sauvignon is adaptable to various growing conditions, and is known for its low yield and late ripeness. It generally produces full-bodied wines with substantial acidity and tannins.
Merlot makes plump, succulent wines to drink young or opulently massive wines for aging. Has silky, blackberry and currant fruit, with spice, earth, tobacco and chocolate notes, and soft tannins.
Petit Verdot makes a dark, firmly structured, tannic wine with superbly balancing acidity, and fresh, full flavors and aromas of spice, pepper and black fruits with notes of violets.
