Pinot Grigio Friuli Grave DOC 2015

Pinot Grigio Friuli Grave DOC 2015

Region: Italy / Friuli-Venezia Giulia
Grapes: 100% Pinot Grigio

The gravelly, sandy subsoil of Grave del Friuli forces the roots of the vine to grow deep into the earth, resulting in richer fruit. Select grapes of optimum ripeness were gently pressed immediately after harvest and underwent a 15-day cold-temperature fermentation in stainless steel tanks. Neither malolactic fermentation nor oak was used.

harvest note

The 2015 harvest started the first days of September showed immediately as a wonderful vintage, both white grapes and red grapes. The excellent health and optimal ripeness that the grapes reached have extremely simplified the work in the cellar. All these elements have allowed us to do a 18/24 hours cryomaceration on Chardonnay, Sauvignon, Friulano and Malvasia white grapes thus achieving more structured wines with more intense varietal aromas. Despite this maceration, we did not have the support of bitter tannins thanks to the extraordinary ripening of this year. The musts immediately turned out to be analytically excellent, both for sugars and for acid balance. The fermentations have been led to temperatures of 54 - 59° F in order to fully preserve fermentation aromas. As is known, if the 2014 harvest was definitely one of the most difficult vintages of the last 20 years, this new vintage 2015 has fully rewarded us with its excellent quality related to the obtained quantity permitting us to give it a 5 stars rating.
