Meursault 2012

Region: France / Burgundy / Côte de Beaune Villages
Grapes: 100% Chardonnay

The vineyards are chalk and white marl and are spread over gentle slopes 230-360 meters above sea level; their desirable eastern orientation allows maximum sunlight. The grapes are handpicked and sorted, then gently pressed and fermented in oak barrels without artificial temperature control. Partial or no malolactic fermentation is permitted based on the vintage. The wine is aged on the lees for 16 months in French oak barrels, 33% new, and 12 months in bottle before release.

harvest note

2012 was a challenging growing season, characterized by unusual weather patterns. We eased gently into winter, but the mild weather gave way to very cold temperatures at the beginning of February, and hard frosts caused a bit of damage in some areas. March was far milder, allowing bud break to begin early. The weather continued to be chaotic throughout summer, with several thundery storms bringing hail to the region (mainly in the Côte de Beaune). The second half of August and the month of September saw the advent of conditions more favorable to ripening, which proceeded well. The low yields we saw helped the grapes ripen fully.

tasting note

Offers complex aromas of white flowers, lemon, yellow and exotic fruits, spices and toast, with firm minerality. As flavors, all these are confirmed on the palate. Overall, the wine is fresh, supple and well-balanced, with good length and a mineral-driven finish.

food pairing

Fish or poultry in cream sauce, shellfish and white meats.
