Pouilly-Fuissé Tête de Cru Le Clos 2009 play
Region:
France
/ Burgundy
/ Poully-Fuissé
Grapes: 100% Chardonnay
Situated between the winery building and Fuissé’s old church, the Le Clos parcel is 1.65 acres, and one of few parcels to enjoy an exposure to the east. Half of its vines are 20 years old, while the other half are at least 40 years of age. They grow on a thin topsoil covering limestone and shale. The wine was fermented in oak barrels (20% new), and saw 18 months of aging, including 6 months on the lees.

2009 vintageharvest note
Burgundy is already heralding 2009 as a great vintage. The year started with an ideally cold winter and flowering took place evenly in early June. Spring and early summer were hot and humid, with several thunderstorms and hail in about 30% of the vineyards in and around Pouilly-Fuissé, reducing the crop in some sites by 50%. August was hot, dry and sunny, with above average temperatures and below average rainfall. The good weather continued right up through harvest, though rain around the middle of October forced those with any fruit still hanging to pick quickly.
tasting note
This is a powerful wine that offers refined flavors of fresh almond, apricot, yellow fruit and minerals. Overall it is vivacious and balanced, with an exceptional, intense finish.
food pairing
Delicious paired with Dover sole, bay scallops, turkey and other poultry.

Le Clos
The east-facing parcel of vines known as Le Clos is a monopole on .69 hectares of land that runs between the Domaine Ferret property and the village church, abutting the property's house. Half the vines are about 20 years old and the other half are at least 40. The soil is derived from alluvial deposits and consists of deep silt and clay with a subsoil streaked with limestone and limestone marl.

-
ChardonnayThough it has a distinctive profile, Chardonnay reflects other factors such as soil composition and vinification technique. Chardonnay is a reliable, hardy and prolific vine whose only real vulnerabilities are frost and uneven development of fruit.
