Te Muna Road Vineyard Pinot Noir 2012

Certified Sustainable, Organic or Biodynamic Green Certified

Region: New Zealand / Martinborough
Grapes: 100% Pinot Noir

In the cool-climate region of Martinborough, the 81.5 acres terraced Te Muna Road Vineyard is planted with eight clones of Pinot Noir in more than 40 different parcels. On the vineyard’s two distinct terraces, stony soils produce exceptional Pinot Noir. Grapes were hand harvested and destemmed before undergoing fermentation in a combination of open-top stainless steel tanks and French oak cuves. The wine matured for 10 months on the lees in French oak barriques.

harvest note

The 2012 wines from Martinborough reflect the hard work and patience which, together, expressed the pedigree of this vineyard in a very challenging vintage. Early spring had average temperatures with low risk of frost, then wet and cool conditions set in. Fewer flowers successfully set, reducing bunch sizes and overall yields. Constant rainfall throughout the season meant there was no water stress but created extensive shoot and lateral growth requiring additional management. The vintage’s silver lining was fantastic warm, dry weather during late April where warm winds and high soil moisture encouraged rapid ripening.

tasting note

Deep brick red color. Vibrant aromatics of red and black cherries, rose petal, sandalwood and wet earth. On the palate, fresh red fruits and fine dry tannins provide a soft yet complex finish.

food pairing

Game and lamb dishes.
