Gimblett Gravels Vineyard’s stony soils keep the growth and cropping of the old clone Syrah vines in check and provide warmth in the autumn, both critical factors in developing the enormous character and presence of the wine. The grapes were hand harvested and destemmed before undergoing fermentation in open-top oak vessels and stainless steel tanks. The wine spent 18 months maturing in 32% new French oak barrels.

harvest note

2010 was a cool vintage that nevertheless delivered full-flavored, ripe fruit. Owing to the cool season, one needed to be patient with the reds, but the ultimately dry autumn allowed them to accumulate excellent color, structure and flavor.

tasting note

An opaque black purple core with vivid crimson rim. Aromatically, tar, black pepper, cedar, rose and a hint of fennel season the ripe, abundant blackberry characters. The palate is svelte where sweet flavours of melted liquorice and dark fruit coat the fine tannins.
