Pouilly-Fuissé Sous Vergisson

Domaine Ferret

Pouilly-Fuissé Sous Vergisson

Region: France / Burgundy / Poully-Fuissé

Sous Vergisson is a 7.5-acre parcel, located in the Croux vineyard just below Vergisson Rock. With an excellent south-southeast exposure, 10-35 year old vines are planted in calcareous (limestone) clay soil, which imparts finesse, complexity and volume to the wine. For this classic Pouilly-Fuissé, fermentation takes place half in enameled tanks and half in oak barrels, which add oxygen and complexity. No new oak is used and the barrels are 2-5 years old to ensure as pure an expression of terroir as possible.

tasting note

With subtle stone fruits, locust tree flowers, fresh hazelnuts and spicy aromas and flavors, the wine’s finish is intense and spicy. Graciously balanced between richness and freshness, the wine shows very harmonious mineral expression. This wine’s balanced freshness and structure allow it to age gracefully but with vibrancy.

food pairing

Shellfish and molluscs, seafood risotto, grilled or pan-fried fish, veal cutlets with creamy sauces, goat and hard cow's milk cheeses.

points of distinction

  • After WW II, Ferret was the first domaine in Pouilly-Fuissé to move from bulk production to estate bottling, for greater quality.
  • One of the few top producers in Pouilly-Fuissé for decades, Ferret was among the first to vinify parcels separately.
  • This area's clay and limestone soil is perfect for wines that are pure expressions of Chardonnay.
