Sambuca is traditionally served on its own as a liqueur, with ice or in coffee. To appreciate Antica in its purest form, pour an inch of Sambuca in a snifter and garnish with three espresso beans.
For a more refreshing take on Antica, pour an inch of Sambuca in a rocks glass, add two to four ice cubes and watch as the liquid becomes cloudy. This effect, called louching, begins when the ice starts to melt. Essential oils extracted from the anise are alcohol soluble but not water soluble, and begin to solidify when the alcohol is diluted. This effect makes for a much more luxurious, velvety texture. Perhaps most common, Antica can be enjoyed in a mix of one part Sambuca to four parts coffee.
