Nev McPike would tell you that for him, winemaking was ‘more of a second coming’. Upon graduating from high school, Nev decided to pursue a Sports degree. In his final year of studying, he began working in the hospitality industry managing a group of restaurants and bars, which is where his interest in wine first began.
His newfound interest in wine was so great that Nev decided to pursue a second degree, this time in Winemaking. In 2006 he was awarded the A&P Society Young Vintner of the Year award, recognizing his commitment to the New Zealand wine industry and in particular, the Hawkes Bay wine region.
Nev has worked many harvests across both New Zealand and Australia, including Hawkes Bay, The Hunter Valley and McLaren Vale in Adelaide. With a very ‘hands-on’ approach to winemaking, Nev believes that less is more and likes to allow the fruit to speak for itself and tell the story of where it came from.
