With 32 years in the wine industry, John Teeling has truly followed his passion for good food and wine.
After graduating from Iowa State University with a B.A. Degree in Finance, he left the Midwest and became a Management Trainee at Bern’s Steak House in Tampa, FL. After a few years, Iowa called him back and he became Captain, and eventually Head Wine Steward at the Embassy Club in Des Moines. It was here that he first met Dana Brown. At that time, the state of Iowa had just privatized the wine business and she was starting her own wholesale wine distributorship. With his expanding knowledge and wine expertise, he accepted a position with Messer Distributing as their Fine Wine Manager, working primarily for on-premise accounts and key off-premise accounts.
His business relationship with Dana Brown continued as he ventured out on his own with J.T.’s Fine Wine & Spirits for the next 15 years. At the same time, he opened his own restaurant, Mosaix – a fine dining restaurant concentrating on French, Italian and Spanish cuisine.
The opportunity to reunite with Dana Brown in California came about 9 years ago, and he was thrilled to join the Calcareous Team -- an establishment he really believes in. He has played an integral part in helping make the Calcareous and Twisted Paso brands what they are today. In addition to his extensive experience, John is a Certified Sommelier in the Court of Master Sommeliers.
