After attending the University of Iowa, Dana began her career in the Alcohol Beverage Industry as a Young Adult Coordinator with the Adolph Coors Brewing Company. Dana left Coors as a National Account Manager in Chicago to establish Des Moines Messer Distributing Company. After 10 years Dana's company, along with her father, Lloyd Messers' company in Sioux City Iowa covered the entire state and commanded a 55% share of the wine market in Iowa. Both companies were sold to Glazer's Distributing in 1998.
Lloyd Messer discovered the beautiful property that is now Calcareous Vineyard in 1999. Lloyd and Dana partnered to develop a premier winery in Paso Robles California. Their passion is for growing low yield and distinctly concentrated wine extracted from their unique "Calcareous" soil.
Lloyd passed in 2006. Although he was not able to see his passion to fruition, his presence is felt daily. The highly regarded wines, Lloyd and Moose pay tribute to this great man!
With Dana's passion for Calcareous and her guidance, she continues their original vision as more vineyards are carefully planted. With 442 acres available the vineyard location and varietal selection are thoroughly researched. The Terroir must be perfect!
Dana's greatest joy is spending time with her children, Ronnie and Frannie. Together they love to travel and enjoy their pet family, Gorgeous George, Pinky, Jr. and Pearl. Add great friends, delicious food and wine - heaven on earth!!!
