The estate is unusual for its diverse spectrum of soils, of which 21 distinct types have been identified.
Benziger strives to maximize the potential of the vineyards by using sustainable, organic or biodynamic farming methods on every one of them. In addition, the family has created one of the first certified sustainability programs, Farming for Flavors, with third-party verification. Beginning in 2007, all of the Benziger grower partners had to become certified in one of these practices.
